Apple recently published a support article regarding the end of support for encrypted Mac OS Extended disks in macOS 28 and later. That's a bit obscure, but if you have Time Machine backup disks that are on the older side, that means the data on them will no longer be accessible once upgrading to macOS 28 upon its release.
